Celebrities in Vintage: Kate Moss

Kate Moss was one of the first style icons to wear a lot of vintage clothing. She has the pick of every designer collection yet when she needs to wear something exceptional she usually chooses vintage.

For her 30th birthday party in 2004, Kate wore a vintage midnight-blue sequin dress that was originally worn by Britt Ekland to the premiere of Bond movie The Man With The Golden Gun.

For a similar look, we have an original 1930s bottle-green velvet gown, embellished with matte gold sequins and with matching cape. To view in our online boutique click here

The lemon yellow dress she wore in New York in 2003 inspired a thousand high-street copies.

In 2007 Kate attended the opening night of The Golden Age of Couture exhibition at the V&A wearing a vintage evening gown by Christian Dior:

The following year she wore a stunning vintage shawl over her Chanel couture dress for Leah Wood's wedding to Jack MacDonald:

The bride also wore vintage:

I love this photo of her cutting a rug with David Walliams - you can really see how the dress moves:

In 2010 Kate wore this slinky lime green 1970s gown with a vintage fur coat and platform sandals. Disco-style make-up completed the look:

To celebrate an exhibition of photographs by Corinne Day (right) at the National Portrait Gallery in 2007, Kate wore a vintage black sequin cocktail dress:

For her own wedding rehearsal dinner last year, Kate wore a blue vintage dress with Tabitha Simmons boots:

Earlier this year Kate wore a vintage embroidered tunic to the Fashion For Relief party during the Olympics:

Earlier this month, Kate was spotted in St Barts on a fashion shoot with photographer Patrick Demarchelier. The vintage kaftan from WilliamVintage and the Bardot-style hair are quintessential Kate:

In 2007 she launched her first collection for Topshop, featuring vintage-inspired dresses and accessories. The 1970s-style red dress Kate wore to promote the collaboration sold out in minutes:

She favours a retro look when wearing contemporary designer clothing - this sorbet-shade dress with batwing sleeves is from Louis Vuitton's S/S14 line:

In 2009 the supermodel added to her fragrance line with a new scent -'Vintage' -  inspired by her love of vintage clothes.

Nothing makes a statement like an exquisite vintage dress. The next profile will be on Nicole Richie - a woman who loves vintage style so much she created her own retro jewellery line, House of Harlow 1960.

Santa Baby...

Jewellery. Fragrance. Furniture. Books. Accessories. This is our selection of the best Christmas gifts - enjoy!

Fitness

I joined Yotopia in October after a very indulgent summer. This is the only studio in London to offer hot Pilates and I can't recommend it enough. Within four sessions my clothes were looser and when I look at my face in the mirror now, I no longer see Sir Les Patterson beaming back at me. I never used to believe in that mind-body-spirit stuff but after a term of sessions at Yotopia I feel happier and more productive. You can buy memberships here - a really great present to help some one kick-start their year.

Furniture & Design

Vintage Seekers is the best place on the web to source stylish vintage furniture. They also have an amazing selection of stemware and decanters - perfect for wedding presents. I've had my eye on this 1950s chair by A. H. Olsen for a while...

Books

Books do furnish a room. Collinge & Clark on Leigh Street in Bloomsbury has thousands of illustrated books and manuscripts to suit all budgets. My recommendation is Iphgenia Baal's latest book of short stories, Gentle Art.

If you're looking for more fashion-related book recommendations, have a look at our online library. We have most of these books in our Judd Street studio and customers are welcome to borrow anything they like. If you would like us to order you a copy of a particular book then just let us know

Maggie Semple OBE has created a luxury gift service for customers who want to preserve the memory of a special dress or outfit. Her team of fashion journalists work with authentic sources to provide a detailed fashion story which can be treasured for years to come. This unique package is presented in an exquisitely crafted hard covered book printed on high quality paper, and every book has personalised illustrations of the item as well as the wearer. For more details have a look at this short video

Fragrance

Olfactory expert and friend of Juno Says Hello, Odette Toilette, has recently launched her own pot pourri. Forget everything you think you know about this kind of home fragrance - Odette's handmade version uses ingredients from English gardens and is presented in a stylish ceramic jar. For perfume, the best specialist boutique in London is Les Senteurs. I was lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time in their Marylebone shop earlier this year for their Vintage Scent Sessions, and my God these guys know their stuff. If you are stuck for gift inspiration this year - make this your one stop.

Jewellery

I could look at vintage and costume jewellery all day and love writing about it. My favourite jewellery boutique is Maggie Owen in Bloomsbury, which stocks beautiful homewares and other gifts as well as contemporary jewellery design.

Accessories

Fortum & Mason on Piccadilly turns into a wonderland over Christmas. The food halls hold everything you could possibly want for a traditional English Christmas, but the often overlooked womenswear and accessories floor holds many hidden gems, such as these evening clutches by London-based Wilbur & Gussie, whose signature 'Charlie' range features amazing printed silks and embellished clasps.

Beauty

Lost in Beauty is a delightful boutique and beauty parlour in Primrose Hill. Their retro studio downstairs can be hired for private parties and events - to find out more click here

Shoes

When customers at Juno Says Hello are looking for the right shoes to complete their outfit, I usually point them in the direction of Charlotte Olympia. Inspired by Old Hollywood glamour, her designs always push the boundaries.

Scented Candles

The best scented candles are made by True Grace and you can find a wide selection online at Something Shop. 'Seashore' is my favourite, and 'Fig' is a lovely velvety fragrance for this time of year.

We sell personalised gift vouchers for the amount of your choice - if you would like to spoil a friend, sister or girlfriend with a personal styling session in our central London studio please get in touch
